First devlog!
Surprisingly, I actually have a working game. Albeit rough around the edges, Goofy Platformer is an actually solid game, I actually had fun playing it today in front of friends, even though I SUCK. That’s right, the developer of the game, sucks at the game. I fell down many times, and my friends also wanted the game, huh? That’s my reason for publishing it here. The demo (up to version 0.1.7), is actually open source, available on GitHub under SchoolAUD/GoofyPlatformer. Now, you might notice that the username has “school” in it, yep! This was a school project, intended only to be seen in my school, ever. But since people in my school class expressed interest and awe, I decided that I’d share it to the internet. Now, I’ll probably get criticised, but criticism, to me, is a good thing. So, bring it on! I need improvements, the entire game (right now) is held together by hopes and prayers.
So, now for the “what went well”: Well, it works! That’s a good thing. It actually launches, and all the levels play as intended, providing you play them as intended *cough cough* level 7 *cough cough*, but more on that later. Enemies work as intended, sometimes Moving platforms can decide between a world record and the slowest time ever, especially on Level 7, unless you know the magical strategy that I discovered at 6:55 this morning, which left me no time to patch it because I was still in bed, and needed to actually get up.
Now for the “what needs improving”: I think the game logic is incredibly inefficient at times. I’m not sure if it actually is, but it just looks… bad. It plays fine, and surprisingly well on the school PCs, but then again it’s a 30MB game, so it’s probably going to run at full frames on Ethan’s PC (I’m surprised that PC hasn’t died yet, he plays War Thunder on an iGPU and it struggles) Also, the music is okay, but I really need to invest in some proper equipment. I was using BeepBox (my beloved). I do love BeepBox, as it is EXTREMELY simple, and quick to make some simple music. I like the Boss battle theme the most.
And… level 7. If you go to one of the walls at the side (or any walls in the game), hold the move input into the wall, and hold jump, you will clip into the wall, and you will repeatedly go up, which makes for a very easy trip to victory, without ever feeling the “thrill” (if you could call it that) of escaping from a close call. And, as you get closer to death, the large gobble will obstruct your view until you die, or escape. I also noticed that some jumps in Level 7 are weird, but then it was kinda rushed in order to get it out of the door, but it is very playable for a level made in about 5 minutes.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the game, and I’m sorry for the rambling haha

Also, with this release, I can say that I’m picking back up Russo Roulette. I’ve wanted to make this game for so damn long lol, but never found the motivation for it. I now have that motivation, and want to push a beta out as soon as I can. The only issue I have is the networking. Networking is a PAIN LOL
